Nipsey Hussle Talks Leaving Epic Records, Dissing "Detox"

This recent interview by Hip Hop DX is an interesting one, and really digs deep into how complicated it can be between an artist, the label and selling records these days. Oh and what perfect timing, Nipsey's new mixtape is out to day, and you can find the link after the interview.

"I feel like that’s an easy cop out to blame it on the label. At the end of the day the label can’t stop a hit record. It went to radio, it got research done on it at radio, and it didn’t come back top ten researched. It didn’t come back as a record that my home [Los Angeles] station, Power 106, could really run with as one of their records. So, it did what it did."

See the full the interview here.

Le Royal Monceau Hotel, Paris

Ornate or Overdone? It's hard to tell in France. Either way, although the decorations are magnificent at times, staying there with hangover sure wouldn't be fun.

Columbia, NY

Staying in New York for a short two week period is no easy (cheap) trick. Luckily my fellow Bulldog, Joel G. let me stay in his dorm for the week. The school is located on 116th and Amsterdam, just north west of Central Park. I have been catching the 1 train to work down in midtown, and so far so good.

Top College Bars in America

Complex Magazine listed their top 25 college bars in America. The categories they used to rate the bars were: Dive, Frat Hole, Black Out Specials, Draught Palace, Bar Food, Trivia, Bar Food, Flat Screen Sun Tans, and Pool availability.

The one UW bar on the list is The College Inn Pub, which I have never been to, nor know anyone who has. That kinda makes me question the quality of their bar choices, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

Some of my favorites: Mary Anns (Boston College), Dirtbags (U of Arizona), The Boot (Tulane, Loyola), Millers (U of Virginia), The 9-0 (USC), listed in order below. See the full list here.

Bright Lights, Bigger City

Ryan Leslie - "Never Gonna Break Up" from Paradoxal Inc on Vimeo.

Ryan Leslie slow simmering jam delivers what most of his songs bring to table; that head noding music. The video is really clean and well done I have to say.

Yeah 3x

You can tell Chris Brown is done dwelling on the past, and or his management told him he HAS to get back to making happy music. Either way this song is nice and will probably go top five on the charts.

Giving Slums a Human Face

As featured in the New York Times, the muralist known as "J R" is known for creating art pieces in poor neighborhoods around the world. Such places as the West Bank, Cambodia and Rio De Janeiro. And not on a traditional canvas, but the sides of shacks, broken down walls and staircases. His goal is to give the slums a face in society, and highlight that you cannot ignore the lesser fortunate areas of cities. See the article and full slide show here.
